Temperature Calibrators

Temperature calibrators provide controlled temperature sources for checking thermometers and temperature probes. Select the calibration method to match the sensor: a flat surface for contact surface probes, a dry well or liquid bath for insertion probes, or a blackbody source for infrared thermometers.

SL Measurement supplies calibration equipment for maintenance, quality control and laboratory work. Start with the required temperature points, probe dimensions and measurement tolerance.


Surface and internal temperature calibrators

Surface probes need a suitable contact area, while insertion probes require a calibration block that accommodates their diameter and insertion length. A combined calibrator supports both arrangements.

  • Anritsu ACS II temperature calibrators — choose the ACS II-1000 or ACS II-2000 for surface probes, ACS II-3000 for internal probes, or ACS II-4000 for both. Available temperature limits depend on the model.

Dry well calibrators

A dry well uses a temperature-controlled block to check insertion probes without a liquid bath. Confirm the hole diameter and usable insertion depth against the probes you intend to test.

Stirred liquid bath calibrators

A stirred bath provides a liquid environment for comparing immersed temperature sensors. Selection depends on the temperature range, suitable bath fluid, working depth and number of probes being checked.

  • EDL Ultra Bath liquid calibrators — accommodate multiple sensors, with different models covering different temperature ranges. Confirm the model and fluid required for your calibration points.

Blackbody infrared calibrators

Infrared thermometers measure emitted radiation and require a suitable reference target. Match the source temperature range and target size to the thermometer's measurement requirements.

  • EDL blackbody infrared calibrators — the SBB range provides reference sources for checking handheld and installed infrared thermometers, with low-, mid- and high-temperature models.

Cryogenic temperature calibration

Low-temperature sensor checks require equipment designed for the intended calibration points and probe arrangement.

  • EDL comparison cryostat calibrator — a specialist option for comparing temperature measurement devices at cryogenic temperatures. Discuss the required range and setup before selecting a configuration.

Match the calibrator to your temperature probes

Browse our temperature probes and provide the exact model you need to check. Surface contact geometry, sheath diameter and immersion depth affect the calibration arrangement.

  • Temperature points: Identify the lowest and highest temperatures required.
  • Probe construction: Provide the sensing-head dimensions or sheath diameter and insertion length.
  • Performance: Specify the required tolerance and calibration documentation.
  • Working setup: State whether the equipment will be used at a fixed bench or moved between locations.

Assess the complete calibration setup, including the reference measurement and temperature uniformity. The controller's displayed resolution alone does not establish calibration accuracy.

The Anritsu ACS II series provides controlled temperature sources for calibrating and checking contact temperature probes. Choose a dedicated surface calibrator, an internal probe calibrator or a combined system to suit your measurement work.

  • Surface calibration: ACS II-1000 to 300°C and ACS II-2000 to 500°C.
  • Internal probe calibration: ACS II-3000 to 500°C.
  • Combined capability: ACS II-4000 for surface and internal probes to 500°C.

EDL offers a complete line of stirred liquid bath calibrators for temperatures from –40 °C up to 550 °C. The Ultra Bath has the highest stability and uniformity possible in any bath. We offer three standard bath models based on the specified temperature range.

EDL’s Single Black Body (SBB) IR Calibrators were designed for easy and reliable testing of virtually any in line or handheld infrared pyrometer/gun. The Single Black Body (SBB) is used for applications requiring only one temperature range. Lightweight and compact, the SBB is ideal for use in the lab or in the field. Units are available to cover the most tested temperatures: SBB-1 (low-range) accommodates temperatures from -30 °C up to 110 °C, SBB-2 (mid-range) accommodates temperatures from ambient up to 350 °C, and SBB-3 (high-range) accommodates temperatures from ambient up to 650 °C.

EDL Practi-Cal (PRI) Dry Well / Surface Calibrator (PRI) allows for easy testing and verification of virtually any size or shaped surface and insertion-style sensor – in one compact package. Utilizing an interchangeable dry well system, this calibrator has a uniform flat surface alongside a custom drilled insertion dry well. The PRI is ideal for use in the lab or in the field. It weighs in at under 30lbs., and can be taken virtually anywhere.

The EDL CRYO-CAL-2 cryostat provides a low-temperature environment for comparison calibration of temperature sensors. Liquid nitrogen supplies the cooling, with a standard block accommodating up to four sensors.

  • Temperature range: -196 to 0°C.
  • Cooling: Liquid nitrogen, without a compressor refrigeration system.
  • Sensor arrangement: Four wells with tubes and spacer options.
