The Sato SK-8950 waterproof infrared thermometer provides non-contact surface temperature measurement for routine equipment checks and production inspections. With a range of -60 to 550°C, it allows operators to check cold and hot surfaces using one handheld instrument.

Practical features for daily temperature checks

  • IP54 protection: resists dust ingress and splashing water, allowing operation with wet hands. The instrument is not intended for immersion.
  • Circular laser marker: provides a visible aiming guide when positioning the thermometer.
  • Adjustable emissivity: select a value from 0.10 to 1.00 in steps of 0.01 to suit the target surface.
  • High and low temperature alarms: audible alerts help operators identify readings outside their selected limits.
  • MAX, MIN, AVG and DIF: review maximum, minimum, average and maximum-to-minimum temperature difference during measurement.
  • Continuous measurement: automatic measurement mode allows readings without holding down the trigger.
  • Backlit display and reading hold: view results in dim surroundings, with the last reading retained for one minute after releasing the trigger before automatic shutdown.

Understanding the 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio

The SK-8950 measures an area rather than a single point. Its approximately 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio gives a measurement spot about 50 mm in diameter at a distance of 600 mm. Keep the target larger than the measuring spot to avoid including the surrounding surface in the reading.

The circular laser is an aiming aid. The laser circle and actual measuring area fully overlap at a measurement distance of 2,000 mm; their relationship changes at other distances.

Selecting an infrared thermometer for your application

For repeatable inspection routines, consider the target material, working distance and size of the surface being checked. Set the emissivity for the material and use a consistent measurement position when comparing readings over time.

Infrared measurement indicates surface temperature. Where the task requires an internal or core temperature, select an appropriate contact probe instead.
