Monitor process pressure with the Wahl SS Series silicon and CS Series ceramic pressure transmitters. These compact instruments provide an electrical pressure signal for connection to compatible monitoring and control equipment, helping operators follow pressure changes without relying solely on a local mechanical gauge.

Select the sensor construction, pressure reference, measuring range and output to match the installation. Both series use a 304 stainless steel housing, while the sensing element differs between the SS and CS versions.

Wahl SS and CS Series comparison

Selection pointWahl SS SeriesWahl CS Series
Sensor technology Silicon pressure sensor with a stainless steel diaphragm. Ceramic pressure sensor with dry sensing construction.
Housing 304 stainless steel. 304 stainless steel.
Application considerations Industrial pressure monitoring, machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, test equipment and suitable food processing applications. Industrial process monitoring, water treatment and chemical applications where the complete wetted construction is compatible with the medium.
Pressure references Relative gauge, absolute and sealed gauge options. Compound and vacuum requirements should be specified separately. Relative gauge, absolute and sealed gauge options.
Food processing selection The manufacturer recommends considering the SS silicon series for food processing. Confirm the connection, materials and cleaning requirements for the installation. The manufacturer does not recommend the CS ceramic series for food processing.

Material selection: Chemical resistance depends on the actual liquid or gas, concentration, temperature and all wetted components. Provide these details before selecting either series.

Accuracy and operating specifications

SpecificationCatalogue details
Ultra-high accuracy option 0.05% of full scale.
Standard accuracy option 0.08% of full scale.
Economy accuracy option 0.10% of full scale at the stated ambient reference condition.
Accuracy definition Includes non-linearity, hysteresis and non-repeatability.
Thermal compensation range -20 to +90°C. Temperature effects depend on the selected accuracy option.
Operating temperature -40 to +125°C. This is wider than the thermal compensation range.
Response time Less than 1 ms, as specified in the catalogue.
Process connection options Male 1/2-inch or 1/4-inch NPT, G1/2 or G1/4 BSPP, R1/2 or R1/4 BSPT, and M20 x 1.5.
Electrical connection options EN 175301-803A angular connector, M12 circular connector or waterproof cable connection.
Environmental protection The catalogue lists IP67 / NEMA 4X for the enclosure. Electrical connection ratings vary: angular connector IP65, M12 IP67 and waterproof plug IP68. Confirm the rating of the complete ordered assembly.

Understanding full-scale accuracy: An accuracy stated as a percentage of full scale relates to the selected measuring span, rather than the pressure reading at that moment. Include the lowest pressure that must be measured accurately when requesting a range recommendation.

4–20 mA and voltage output options

Choose the output to match the receiving instrument. A PLC input, panel meter or recorder must support the selected signal and be configured for the same pressure range.

OutputWiringCatalogue supply voltage
4–20 mA 2-wire. 8–30 V DC.
0–5 V 3-wire. 8–30 V DC.
1–5 V 3-wire. 8–30 V DC.
0–10 V 3-wire. 8–30 V DC.
0.5–4.5 V 3-wire. 12–30 V DC, as listed in the catalogue.

These are ordering options; one transmitter should not be assumed to provide every output. Confirm the supply, wiring diagram and receiving input requirements for the selected configuration before installation.

Selecting a pressure transmitter for your installation

  • Pressure reference: Specify gauge, absolute or sealed gauge measurement. Include any vacuum or compound pressure requirement.
  • Measuring range: Provide minimum, normal and maximum pressure, including expected pressure spikes.
  • Process medium: Identify the liquid or gas, its temperature and any cleaning chemicals that contact the sensor.
  • Mechanical connection: Confirm the thread type and size. NPT, BSPP and BSPT connections are not interchangeable.
  • Electrical interface: State the required signal, available power supply, connector and cable length.
  • Existing instrument replacement: Include a nameplate photograph, full model code and wiring details.
