The Sato 7980-S-40 tipping bucket rainfall sensor converts collected rainfall into electrical contact pulses for a compatible external recorder or counter. Its stainless steel construction and two-wire connection suit installations requiring rainfall measurement at a separate monitoring point.
Build a rainfall recording system around the Sato 7980-S-40 tipping bucket rain gauge. The sensor produces a contact signal as the bucket tips, allowing compatible receiving equipment to count rainfall increments and maintain a record of accumulated precipitation.
When specifying a new installation or replacing an existing sensor, match the rainfall increment and contact characteristics to the recorder input. The sensor is one part of the measurement system; display, storage and reporting functions depend on the connected equipment.

Specification note: These figures apply to the listed 7980-S-40 version. Confirm the supplied model and electrical contact limits before connecting it to existing equipment.
Choose receiving equipment that accepts the sensor’s contact signal and supports the correct rainfall scaling. For this configuration, each counted tip represents 0.5 mm of rainfall.
Provide the recorder model, input specification and proposed cable length when requesting a system quotation. A temperature-only logger should not be assumed to accept rainfall contact pulses.
Send a photograph of the sensor nameplate and the connected recorder. Include the existing rainfall increment, wiring details and mounting dimensions so compatibility can be reviewed before a replacement is selected.
Where rainfall forms part of a wider weather monitoring project, you can also review the Sato three-cup wind speed sensor. Each measurement channel requires a compatible input arrangement.
